Overview

The Bachelor of Health and Social Care (Honours) programme at the University of Leeds aims to equip students with the theoretical and practical skills needed to meet the complex care needs of diverse populations. Located in the picturesque city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, this accredited degree programme offered by the School of Sociology and Social Policy provides an ideal blend of academic rigour and hands-on experience.

Course Structure and Modules

This three-year honours degree programme consists of a combination of core and elective modules, along with a dedicated dissertation project in the final year. Students learn to apply conceptual frameworks, methodological approaches, and practical interventions to real-life health and social care scenarios, including:

Core modules:

  1. Health, Well-being and Society
  2. Social Science and Social Work
  3. Human Biology

Elective modules:

  1. Children, Family and Society
  2. Policy and Practice
  3. Chronic Illness: Personal and Healthcare Perspectives

Additionally, students select two optional elective modules, designed to enhance career prospects or facilitate specialization in desired areas of care.

Modules in Practice Settings

The hands-on component is an integral aspect of this program. Students experience practical placements (60 days or more) with local healthcare settings, charities, and community organisations, applying skills learned in both classroom and healthcare settings. Regular feedback and mentored support helps students reflect on these experiences and contextualise their own professional development.
