Opportunities

Kenya has made significant strides in expanding access to education at all levels. The introduction of Free Primary Education (FPE) in 2003 and Free Secondary Education (FSE) in 2018 has resulted in increased enrollment rates, particularly among underserved populations. As a result, more children are able to access foundational education, which is essential for fostering a more literate society.

Furthermore, the growth of higher education institutions is another notable opportunity within the Kenyan academic landscape. The number of universities has increased dramatically, from just a handful in the early 1990s to over 70 today. This expansion has broadened the academic offerings available to students, fostering diversity in fields of study. Plagiarism and exam cheating have become prevalent in some educational institutions, undermining the value of degrees and the integrity of the academic system. This trend raises concerns about the long-term implications for both the reputation of Kenyan institutions and the competencies of graduates.
